Wills and Probate

Making a will, planning for inheritance tax and care fees, and administering an estate when someone has died.

Preparing a will is an absolute must in this day and age.

Not making a will can be expensive: in potential tax, in the legal costs of administering an estate without one, and because those who benefit may not be the people you wanted to benefit. Failing to make or update a will can also lead to disputes over who is entitled to an estate, which can be damaging both personally (often between relatives) and in the legal costs to the estate.

The rise in residential property values has brought more and more people within the scope of Inheritance Tax, which makes a carefully prepared will increasingly important. It is a document best entrusted to someone with the necessary specialist skills, particularly if it is to be drafted to minimise Inheritance Tax: a poorly drafted will can cause more problems than it solves.

What we handle

  • Making wills
  • Inheritance tax planning and planning for possible care fees
  • Administration of estates (probate)

After a death

When someone has died, help is often needed to deal with their estate in line with the wishes set out in their will. This can be distressing as well as onerous and time consuming. In certain circumstances, the terms of a will can be varied at this stage with a view to reducing Inheritance Tax for the estate and for beneficiaries.

At Amphletts we provide the specialist advice and service to deal with these matters, and can help with all the issues that may arise.
